You can translate Adobe® FrameMaker® documents directly with a minimum amount of preparation in Alchemy PUBLISHER.

This section describes the .FM, .Book, .MIF and .SGML translation process.

Adobe FrameMaker software is a flexible, user-friendly, enterprise-class authoring and publishing solution for technical communicators.

It combines word processing and XML-based structured authoring with template-based publishing and powerful single-sourcing support to help you create polished technical documentation and books in multiple languages.

Localization Process

Use File->Open to open a FrameMaker file (e.g. .FM , .MIF ) for translation. Once the file is translated, use File->Save Target As to create the translated version of the document.

  1. FrameMaker file (.FM ), or inter-change files (.MIF ) can be opened directly by Alchemy PUBLISHER.

Adobe FrameMaker needs to be installed on your host PC in

order to open a document directly within Alchemy PUBLISHER.

Use Prepare for Translation Bureau in Adobe FrameMaker to

create a PPF file that can be translated by Alchemy PUBLISHER.

  1. Analyze and pre-translate the document using the Analysis and Translate Experts.

  2. Translate the document using the Translator and PowerTranslate toolbar.

  3. Verify the tag content of the target documents using the Validate Expert.

  4. Use File->Save Target As to create the translated version of the document.

  5. Open the translated documents in FrameMaker and carry out the final DTP work, such as generating the index and table of contents.

File Versions Supported

Alchemy Publisher supports FrameMaker version 5.0 or later, FrameBuilder and FrameMaker+SGML 5.0 or later.
