Issue

The Windows Firewall may be blocking your licensing software from running.

Reason

Below is an explanation of how the Windows Firewall may be interfering with your running of Alchemy Catalyst .

It is important that you unselect "Don't allow exceptions" or you will not receive the warning that the processes are being blocked.

Solution

The Windows Firewall can be found in Start | Control Panel | Windows Firewall.

Above are screenshots of the alert dialogs that appear when running Alchemy Catalyst  on XP SP2.

The firewall blocks Alchemy.exe and lmgrd.exe; these processes are required to run Alchemy Catalyst 's licensing, users need to unblock them.

In the Firewall settings (Control Panel -> Windows Firewall) there is a check box to 'allow exceptions'.

The default is to have this check box unchecked as in the screenshot below, i.e. exceptions are allowed to run and users are asked if they want to allow specific programs to run (as above).

If users do not allow exceptions, as it says in the dialog below, they will NOT be notified when programs are blocked.

Products or Versions Affected

  • Alchemy CATALYST 6.0  and greater
