Machine Translation (MT) is a sub-field of computational linguistics. It uses computer software to translate text or speech from one natural language to another.  At its basic level, MT performs simple substitution of words in one natural language for words in another. Using corpus techniques, more complex translations may be attempted, allowing for better handling of differences in linguistic typology, phrase recognition, and translation of idioms.

Automated Machine Translation

The Leverage Expert can connect to machine translation sources to allow automated machine translation for large volumes of segments.  Many reference sources can be used by the Leverage Expert.  A typical situation is to use a translation memory source (TM) followed by a machine translation source (MT).  This has the effect of pulling a TM hit for all available translations and then requesting an MT result for the rest.  The Leveraged symbol is used for any segment that has been translated using TM and the MT symbol indicates those that were translated using machine translation.
