Use the Duplicates Expert to extract and consolidate duplicated segments across several TTK projects. Translating all the duplicates from a number of TTK projects will ensure consistency of translations. The output is a new TTK file in which the gathered duplicates are exported to.

Once the duplicates TTK has been fully translated, the translations can be leveraged back into the original TTK projects.

The Duplicates Expert works on TTK on disk.

If you are applying to a TTK currently opened in CATALYST you will need to close the active TTK and reopen it to see the changes made by the Duplicates Expert.

It is a particularly useful feature when translating multiple TTK projects at the same time. Via the Project Manager or selecting a batch of files, select all the TTK projects to automatically extract all duplicates within. Not only does it allow to avoid duplicates found in different TTK projects to be translated differently (causing inconsistency) but it also reduces the wordcount regarding translation charges.

Mark and Hide Duplicates in Source TTKs

Use this option to grey out all exported duplicates in the original project, they are no longer editable.

A Label "Duplicate" is also applied to each exported segment and can be used for sorting or filtering thereafter.

See example below this table of options.

Add Duplicates TTK to Project Manager

Selecting this option automatically lists the newly created Duplicates TTK to the Project Manager list, marked selected.

Example after exporting duplicates from one TTK project in the Project Manager:

The second column above indicates if a project has been exported to Duplicates (grey arrow) or contains exported duplicates (orange arrow).

Back Up TTKs before Export

Use this option to create a copy of the project file(s) before it is updated. This is particularly useful when used with the Mark and Hide Duplicates in Source TTKs option which updates the TTK upon extraction.

You will be prompted to select a folder in which to save copy of each TTK and the filename will be appended with a number reflecting date and time, using format filename_yyyymmddhhmm.ttk.

Example, TTK project exported to Duplicates with the option "Mark and Hide Duplicates in Source TTKs" selected.

Information on the contents of the Duplicates TTK

When you create a Duplicates TTK via the Expert, that TTK itself may contain Duplicates. Although that may seem to be contrary to what a Duplicates TTK should contain, the duplicates may be the very same text but found within different inline tags, or different spaces counts.

Use the Duplicates filter to display segments with the same text content but disregarding tags.
