Translation Memories (TM) and Machine Translation (MT) sources can be used as translation sources to find and display suggested translations in the Translator Toolbar. Several TM and MT sources can be active simultaneously and suggested translations from these locations will be displayed in the reference pane of the Translator Toolbar. To open a Translation Memory and view translations:

  1. Click on Active TM & MT tab at the bottom of the Translator Toolbar.

  1. Click to add a new Translation Memory to the list of Active Translation Memories.
    This will bring up the Active TM dialog on which you can set your desired TM or MT source.

  2. The reference source will be used to suggest translations for the currently highlighted segment .

Interface Buttons

Use the following buttons to manage your list of Active Translation Memories.

Add Active TM or MT: Click this button to add a new reference to your active list.

Remove: Click this button to remove an entry from your list. Alternatively, you can deselect the radio-button adjacent to the source to temporarily remove it from your active list.

TM or MT Information: Click this button to find out information about Alchemy Desktop TM files.

Refresh Cache: Each TM in the active list list is cached to improve performance and speed of searches. Click this button to destroy the current cache and rebuild it by re-searching all active sources.

 

NOTE: You should always refresh your cache when switching from one project to another in the Alchemy Project Environment. This ensures that you always get the latest translation suggestion.

TM Information

Click on the [i] button TM Information button to see more detailed information about Alchemy Desktop TMs in your Active TM list.

In the example above, the desktop TM file Transmem.tm contains both Japanese and Chinese translations.

Support for Multiple TM formats

Alchemy supports the following translation memory formats:-

TTK - Alchemy CATALYST Translation Toolkit

 

This is the native bi-lingual format for Alchemy CATALYST. All current and previous versions of Alchemy CATALYST project files are supported.

PPF - Alchemy PUBLISHER Project File

 

This is the native bi-lingual version for Alchemy PUBLISHER. All current and previous versions of Alchemy PUBLISHER project files are support.

TM - Alchemy Multilingual Desktop TM

 

This is the Alchemy multi-lingual desktop TM.

Alchemy Language Exchange

 

This is the Alchemy TM Server product. It is based on Microsoft SQL Server technology and is a high-powered server-based Translation Memory.

TMW - TRADOS Desktop TM

 

This is the native desktop TM from SDL TRADOS. (NOTE: You need an active SDL TRADOS license on your machine to access this filetype.)

TMX - Translation Memory Interchange Format

 

This is an XML based interchange format for Translation Memories.

TXT - Tab Delimited Files

 

This is an eye-readable text file containing two columns of text. Column one contains original source text and column two contains translation.

TXLF and TXML - WordFast Pro Bi-lingual format

 

TXLF and TXML are native formats in WordFast Pro files.

Wordfast TM Server

 

This is the Wordfast TM Server product. By employing a sophisticated machine code index, WfServer achieves a unique combination of maximum speed, scalability and stability.

SDL TM Server

 

This is the SDL TM Server product. It is based on Microsoft SQL Server technology and is a high-powered server-based Translation Memory.

 

Translation Reference

When viewing the Translation Memory suggestions in the Reference window the name and symbol of the TM is displayed to the right along with the TM entry's translation status.  If more than one entry is available, then navigation buttons for next and previous TM suggestions are displayed.
